Approach

The climb begins at the col between Cambales (2965m) and Gabizo Cristal (2890m). This can be easily accessed from Respumoso Refuge. You might also come from France. If so you just have to follow the Azun valley.

Route Description

Gain the Gabizo Cristal peak from the col (easy ground). From here you see the Balaitous at the very end of the arête. The first half of it is called Cresta del Diablo (Debil’s Ridge) and goes northwards. The second half is called Cresta de Costerillou (Costerillou Ridge). The proper climb begins at the Gabizo Cristal and is quite sustained. The route just follows the edge of ridge almost all the time.

Essential Gear

Helmet, Rope, and some friends and ring tapes.
The climb is easy to protect and there are pegs on the key passages so don’t carry too much gear. Climbing boots are no necessary because the most difficult passages are short and never more difficult than IVsup-V. Due to the length of the climb hiking boots are much more comfortable.

Miscellaneous info

If you are fit and really fast you can try to the whole climb in one summer day. However, for most of the teams this climb will require a bivouac.
There are no possibilities to obtain water once on the ridge, so make sure you carry enough water.

Miscellaneous Info

If you have information about this route that doesn't pertain to any of the other sections, please add it here.
