Approach

From Heinrich-Schwaiger Haus. See Overview.

Route Description

From the hut northeastwards on a marked trail to a steep conduit (called "Klamml", secured with a rope). At the top, follow the marks on the right upwards, easy, on to the Untere Fochezkopf (3022 m). On to the Obere Fochezkopf (3159 m).

The Kaindlgrat, the actual west ridge, begins here. Straigt on to the summit on the ridge. Moving away from the ridge, climbing in the south flank or west flank, can be dangerous and is not recommended (stonefall).

Essential Gear

Basic equipment. Ice axe, crampons, depending on conditions. No belaying necessary.
