Overview
The Johann cableroute exists since 1999 and leads through the 600m high southface of Dachsteinwarte. Because it's a few 100m right of Dachstein southface,
great views into this bigwall and the routes there are possible. The "Johann" has difficulty D/E on the cableroute difficulty range (from A to E), which means it is long,
very exposed and strenuous. The advantage is:
the most difficult part, an overhang, is at the very beginning of the route, so if you mastered it the rest of the tour should not be a problem anymore.
Approach
Same approach as for Steiner route
(see there). Follow the there mentioned track from Dachsteinsuedwand hut to Dachstein southface. Approximately 15 minutes from the hut you'll reach a cairn, from there red marks on the rock lead you to the base of "Dachsteinwarte" southface.
Route Description
Follow the cables and iron handholds through the southface until Dachsteinwarte (you can't miss the route, the cable leads from entry to exit).
Descend via same route, Hunerscharte cableroute or cablecar.
Essential Gear
Equipment to secure yourself on the cable. For children or unexperienced persons a rope, so that you can build belays and secure them. In early summer steep entry snowfields must be crossed, so crampons can be helpful, or a hammer to hit steps.

Super-Ferrata DachseinIf you link up the "Anna Klettersteig" (on the Mitterstein, 2097 m), the "Johann" and the "Schulteranstieg" (on the Hohen Dachstein), you get what is called the Super-Ferrata Dachsein - 1200 metres of pure klettersteig, one of the longest such routes in the Alps.
