Approach

If driving a 2WD car, park at the Elbert or Massive trailhead as if climbing the standard route. If you have 4WD, you can continue 2 mi. W on Halfmoom Road (FS 110) to the South Halfmoon trailhead.

Route Description

Follow the rough jeep road (FS 110.3) S for 2.5 miles to a clearning where the road begins to level out at 11,400 ft. From here you can see the route up Elbert, 1 mile SSE and 3000 ft. above you. Head up the rocky gulch and then climb to the tundra ridge on either side.
You may wish to descend the standard NE ridge route to the Elbert trailhead

Essential Gear

If there is snow then crampons and ice axe would be helpful (30-45 degree slope). Otherwise standard hiking gear will do.

Miscellaneous Info

If you have information about this route that doesn't pertain to any of the other sections, please add it here.
