Approach

Take the Engineer Pass Road out of Lake City to Nellie Creek Road. Its a little over 5 miles and has a sign. Turn right (N) on Nellie Creek Road and follow it as far as your vehicle will allow. Most high clearence vehicles can make it all the way to the Wilderness Boundary. It's a little over 4 miles, and be sure to stay left at the fork. There is good parking at the Wilderness Boundary. Camping sights abound and there's also an outhouse.

Route Description

From the wilderness boundary follow the trail west through the trees. The trail is good all the way to the summit. You can see the whole mountain and most of the route after about an hour on the trail. There is some minor scrambling after the switchbacks but its short and only about class 2.1.

Essential Gear

Normal hiking gear. Be sure to take plenty of water.
