Approach

Thsi is the usual descent from Hochkalter, so you must have reached the summit before (for example via "Schöner Fleck").

Route Description

From the summit follow red marks leading south west over terasses and grooves of scree. Don't descend too far. Traversing over a nearly horizontal ledge (cairns) the notch of Ofental and finally the highest point of Ofental is reached. Down through the scree of the upper part of the valley, that stretches to north-west, facing "Ramsau Dolomites", the highest summits of Reiteralm. At the edge of the alpine forest the beginning of a footpath can be found at the western side of the valley. The path leads down over Lahnwaldhut (no attendance) and Klausbachbridge to Klausbach-road (not opened for public traffic). Turn right and follow the road or the parallel footpaths in about half an hour to Hintersee.

It takes about 4 to 5 hours total time from Hochkalter-summit to Hintersee.

Less recommendable for ascention (about 6 hours from Hintersee, tiresome).

Essential Gear

No special gear is necessary.
