Approach

From Eagle Nest, take Route 38 north for about a mile, and take the turnoff on the right to Virginia City. Continue on this road, past Virginia City along Willow Creek until you reach a junction in the road. Take the road to the right, continuing upward until you reach a four-wheel-drive road. Take this road as far as you dare, but eventually you will have to get out and hike the rest.

Route Description

From the four-wheel-drive road, continue upward until you reach the northwest ridge which connects to Baldy. Take the pack trail right and head for the summit. To reach Touch-Me-Not Mountain, take the south face down, but head off the trail to the south ridge before you get too low. From there, it is fairly easy to find your way through the various scree fields to the summit.

All this can be easily accommodated into a day's hike. And depending on where you begin along the four-wheel-drive road, the hiking could be as long as 12 miles round-trip.

Essential Gear

No special gear essential for this climb, but be prepared for colder weather up top, especially if you plan to spend the night.
