The Kehlstein (1,834m) northwest of the massif is connected with Hoher Göll by a narrow ridge, called Mannlgrat. A via ferrata leads along this ridge to the Gölleiten and further on to the shoulder of Hoher Göll, where the ascent joins the Salzburger Steig, that reaches the ridge from Eckerfirst in the east.

On top of Kehlstein the Kehlsteinhaus or eagle's nest (no overnight accomodation) is starting point for the ascent to Hoher Göll along the Mannlgrat. Kehlsteinhaus can be reached by special busses from Obersalzberg/Klaushöhe (you can get there from Berchtesgaden by cable-ropeway, by car over the steep Obersalzbergstreet or by bus). Per pedes you can ascend Kehlstein from stopping point "Ofnerboden" at the Rossfeldstreet in the east of the massif.

Route Description

From Kehlstein south east along the ridge, at first following the touristic circuit, then along the narrowing ridge, belayed with ropes and cables. Before the Gölleiten are reached, a chimney (several cramps) has to be climbed. Uphill the following broad flank until joining the Salzburger Steig. Together to the summit.

Orientation at the Mannlgrat is easy. But from Gölleiten fog will be awkward.

For a traverse of the massif you can climb Hohes Brett and descend to Torrener Joch with the Stahlhaus or via Mitterkaser to middlestation of Jennerbahn (ropeway). Other possibilities are the Alpeltal- and the Pflugtal-descent (UIAA I resp. UIAA II), both back to Obersalzberg.
