Approach

See the Getting There section of the main page to access the trailhead.

Route Description

From either trailhead, the route is steep forest for the first section. About halfway between the upper trailhead and the crater the forest thins and you can see the summit. The trail goes around the crater to the west and crosses the false summit. From there you can see the long ridge to the summit and a rock wall running down the middle of the ridge. Traverse these to the left (west) on a steep scree path. You will come to a small notch in the rock wall marked (at least in August of 2002) with orange tape. Scramble up onto the ridge here and hike up the cinder ridge to the summit.

Total distance from lower trailhead is 9.8 miles with 3130 feet of elevation gain. From the upper trailhead, it's 5.4 miles round trip with 2330 feet elevation gain.

Essential Gear

None needed (no water on the trail though).

Miscellaneous Info

If you have information about this route that doesn't pertain to any of the other sections, please add it here.
