Approach

The climb can be started from the Dilberduzu camp area about 2700m altitude. The nearest motorway is up to the Olgunlar village about 2000m altitude. There is a good trail from this village, past Hastaf meadow at halfway.

Route Description

This is the easiest way to climb Kackar peak. It is a long hike, on grass, scree or rocky areas. Compared to the moist north face of the mountain, this side is more sunny and less snowy. This route is far often used than the other alternatives.

From Dilberduzu camp to the peak, the path is usually marked by stone piles, but at some sections it may become scarce. Here are some guidelines for this route:

-Walk up to Deniz Golu Lake It is behind the righthand slope to west direction.
-From the lake at about 3300m altitude, turn to south heading a pass.
-From the pass, the rest of the route should be obviously seen if the weather is clear.
-Descend about 100m down to a small glacier lake.
-Pass the lake from its right side and start to ascend again.
-The rest to up to the peak is marked on the photo below.

*Shortcut Variant (Seytan Bogazi): It is shorter in distance, but not necessarily in time, because of the difficulties. This route bypasses Dilberduzu camp, Deniz Golu lake and the pass, if started from Olgunlar Village; but the normal way described has a better beaten and easier path. Still if preferred, past the meadow divert to right before the last slope to Dilberduzu, make a level walk until the base of the gulley to the west, but don't turn to the wider valley right hand. Climb the gulley up to a waterfall. Pass the waterfall from the right side. This section needs a short scramble, which makes the hardest part of this variant route. Then the slope eases. Following the streamflow with several flat and rocky steps, leading to the glacier lake and meeting the standard route again.

Essential Gear

At summer months, no technical gear is necessary; but the easy season is short and the rest of the year, use of crampons and ice axe must be considered.
