Approach

See the Northwest Face of Milestone route description.

Route Description

From the base of the Milestone summit block on its north side, descend 75 feet then cross over a rib to the north, aiming for a notch immediately north of the Milestone summit block. Descend down a chute on the east side of Milestone, where loose talus is soon encountered. Thus far, this descent follows the East Side Route of Milestone first climbed by Norman Clyde in July 28, 1927. Continue descending over the open talus slope between Milestone and Midway Mountains, across a snowfield, and towards a small tarn at about 12,500. Climb up and over slabs up towards a notch on the East Ridge of Midway. This is the prominent left notch on the ridge. Cross the notch and ascend the talus boulders to the summit.
