Approach

See main page for directions to Meysan Lake.

Route Description

From Meysan Lake, climb up the chute immediately south of the east ridge, which extends from Mt. Mallory towards Meysan Lake. The chute is filled with loose rock and sand in the lower section. Snow fills the upper part of the chute year-round, becoming icy later in the summer. The slope is not very steep. Above the chute is a broad, flat, sand and scree-covered plateau at 13,200-13,400 feet. The plateau is between Mts. Mallory to the north and LeConte to the south. From the plateau, the summit is an easy scramble up talus.

"Time Required" is from the trailhead at Whitney Portal.

Essential Gear

Crampons and ice axe are nice to have.
