Approach

The first two miles of the PCT meanders through the woods gaining about 900 feet until it reaches the junction with the Commonwealth Creek Trail. Follow the main trail to the right and continue in and out of the woods, steeply at times, for two more miles. The PCT then traverses beneath Kendall Peak on the southwest side and offers several climbers trails to the summit. This approach takes you just a little further up the PCT to near the divide on the north side of Kendall Peak. A short climbers trail can be seen on the right of the trail that leads up to the ridgeline. From this point the summit is almost .5 mile to the southeast.

Route Description

From the top of the climbers trail, the summit will be about a .5 mile, part walk, part scramble to the summit and the summit register. This route stays mainly on the west side of the ridge, which isn't nearly as steep as its opposite side.

Although the ridge scramble will be about .5 mile in length, little elevation will be gained. As if placed, any loose rock encountered is mostly limited to the flat parts of the ridge. When hands are needed, the rock is typically solid.

A much easier descent than repeating the above mentioned route would be down the southwest slope to the PCT. Loose rock on the slope should be expected but no real danger persists.

Essential Gear

No technical gear is needed during the summer months. An ice axe and crampons are suggested otherwise.
