Approach

Follow the JMT east from the top of Nevada Falls for about a quarter mile. Look for a use trail that climbs north over a low ridge about 50 feet high. This trail is also used for access to Half Dome's Snake Dike. The trail peters out on granite slabs atop the ridge. From here you should be able to see the Northeast Gully about a hundred yards to the southwest.

Route Description

This is the easiest route to the summit of Liberty Cap, and the only scrambling one. Follow the shallow gully found on the northeast side to the summit. There are no tricks or route-finding difficulties. The views from the summit are excellent.

Essential Gear

None needed. Can be climbed in any shoes or boots. In winter one may need crampons/axe.
