Approach
From Berchtesgaden drive to Hinterbrand. Parking.
Route Description
Follow the Rossfeldstrasse for ca. 5 min. E and then take the path up the Alpeltal ("Alpeltalsteig"). Climb relatively steep throug trees, and turn left at ca. 1200 m. Now climb NE over rocky passage (cables). After the cables, turn right and climb steep until you reach a high valley (ca. 1300 m). Climb this valley, rounding an edge either right or left, into a sparse larch-forest, and continue to climb the steep slope. Now the terrain turns less steep; keep to the left side until the terrain becomes steeper again. At ca. 1900m turn right into the area called "Umgäng". Now almost flat until a steeper slope is reached at ca. 2000m which is climbed. Before reaching the "Göllscharte" turn left into steep S-facing slopes. Now follow the broad ridge up to the first summit (usually here ski-depot). Finally, follow the ridge to the main summit (watch cornices).
Essential Gear
Normal ski touring equipment, ski crampons ("Harscheisen") recommended
