Approach
From Kingman, drive south on the signed "Hualapai Mountains Park" road about 10 miles to a ranger station and camping complex.
Route Description
Follow the Aspen Trail less than a mile and turn left onto the Potato Patch loop for about another mile to a junction with a forest road.
Turn hard left onto the forest road. Resist the temptation to stay on the trail. Follow the forest road south another mile or so to a saddle and a junction with a poorer-quality road. The road actually descends a fair bit: approximately 300 foot total from the highest spot on the initial hike in.
Follow this bad road up past a gate to the Hualapai Peak top where a shack and antennae are situated. To gain the summit, follow a brushy use path up through brush and rock to the main ridge, which is a series of large talus blocks. Gain the summit block by utilizing a small ledge about midway up this block. Be careful. The final 'step' is about 5 feet high. A little bit of nimbleness helps here. Some may be content to simply hoist themselves up partways then tag the summit.
(Update, Oct 2003): the shack and antennae seem to have been removed, and the access road seems to have been left to be reclaimed by nature. It's in abysmal condition, although hikers should have no problems with it. The route to the top begins at the last switchback before the road ends.)

Long pants a must. Poles nice to beat the brush for snakes. No tech gear needed.
