Approach

Follow nickd's excellent route description to the camping areas below Vestal and Arrow Peaks. It is an easy scramble over to the base of the ramp.

Route Description

If the north face of Arrow Peak is devoid of snow, the lower portion of this climb is easy. Just friction climb up the prominent
"ramp" or "rib". until the ramp/rib starts to widen at the top . According to the "San Juan Mountains, A Climbing and Hiking Guide" by Robert F. Rosebrough, you will now have a choice to either climb directly up to the top (more difficult), or veer right and obtain the north ridge for the final climb to the summit. We chose to do the latter. There was one pretty difficult 3 + class move on this ridge near the summit. Also, because of the snow on this ramp, we altered our climb about mid-way up the ramp and climbed up some steep gullies/dihedrals to the right.

Essential Gear

Some parties may want a short rope if they chose to descend the South Face Route. Snow makes the Northeast Rib Route much more difficult. Helmets are a must.
