Approach
The most moderate option to the base of He Devil starts at the Windy Saddle trailhead. From there follow trail 124 (marked on USGS "He Devil" Quad) down into a deep valley and once ascending the opposite side trail 140 links into trail 123 that leads to Sheep Lake. Sheep Lake is by far the popular camping available and is very scenic. Gem Lake is also another fine option since both are in very close proximity to the mountain.
Route Description
The NorthWest Ridge is the most straightforward route up the mountain going at a class 3 rating. From the Saddle separating Gem Lake and Sheep Lake hike South until encountering the obvious North West ridge line. Follow this ridge to the summit. Although the peak looks imposing from the base it's nothing more than a simple scramble.
Essential Gear
The entire climb is above tree line and can be very exposed if high winds are present. If climbing in a group helmets are encouraged due to the abundance or loose rock on the route. There are no technical aspects to the climb and no special gear is required beyond solid footwear to tackle the scree and talus encountered on the route.
