Approach

From Domodossola (Italy - near the Simplon pass) to San Domenico and then by telpherage to Alpe Ciamporino (1975 meters) and then by an other telpherage to Colle di Ciamporino (2283 meters).

This route is worthly of consideration also without the aid of any telpherage (a little bit longer and harder) directly on foot by S. Domenico. Route to Alpe Ciamporino starts on the left of the telpherage bottom station, then goes up following mountain roads, mountain bike tracks and evident paths.

Route Description

From Colle Ciamporino by foot a very nice crossing through the mountains to a pass: then turn right to east on the mountain until bivouac Leoni (2803 meters, 2 hours from Alpe Ciamporino). When you look the bivouac, to reach the Pizzo Diei you have to turn left (to west) .

In about 30 minutes, through an easy path (but be carefull to the signal!) you reach the Pizzo Diei peak.

Pizzo Diei is also a very fine ski-mountaneering summit that can be done starting from January (BSA)
Route starts from S.Domenico, pass through Alpe Ciamporino and Ciamporino Pass till the south-west slopes.

Essential Gear

No Alpine-climbing equipment. Just for hiking. Some wear for the snow (present near the peak in autunm). Alpin Ski in winter.
