From Tarvisio Pass, highway to Udine (I) exit Carnia, follow the signals to Tolmezzo and then to Forni Avoltri. Sitated in the northern part of Carnia, at the borders with Cadore and Austria, Forni Avoltri is an ideal base of deparature to visit territories of extraordinary beauty, in exceptional state of conversation, rich with millions of species of flora, populated with numerous fauna, put in the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia under the protection of the Park of Carnia Central. The interior of that splendid territory arise the highest mountains in the region, between which Coglians (2782 mts.).

Route Description

START: Refuge Tolazzi mt.1350(situated in Plan di Val di Bos)

MAP: TABACCO nr.01- 1:25.000 Sappada-S.Stefano-Forni Avoltri.
TABACCO nr.09-1:25.000 Alpi Carniche-Carnia Centrale.

PATH: CAI nr.143.

Exposition: south-face

Time required:

1) From refuge Tolazzi to Rifugio Marinelli 2 hours.
2) From Refuge Tolazzi to Mount Coglians h 4.30

DIFFICULTY: Expert excursionist (EE) - easy scramble

By path nr.143 go up until Casera Morareet or Moraretto (mt.1682). Follow the signals to "forcella Morareet mt.2111" and to "Refuge Marinelli" mt 2120.

Go up to Pic Chiadin mt.2302 e then to "forcella Monumenz" where you looking for the path nr. 172 (mt.2307). From here in one hour by a last part of easy rock passages to Monte Coglians mt 2780.

On the return, at the "forcella Morareet" you can turn right and take the path nr.145 (called "Riccardo Spinotti") to the Refuge Lambertenghi Romanin direction (Expert excursionist).
