Approach

From Antonito, CO drive approximately 22 miles west on highway 17 and turn right on FR 250. Drive approximately 25 miles and then turn left on FR 380. Drive 3 miles and after passing Lake Anella, make a left turn on FR 243. Drive about 2 miles and park at the end of the road.

Route Description

From the end of the road, you will be on the north side of the creek. Hike up until you can find an easy place to cross Treasure Creek. There is no trail. Begin hiking towards Montezuma Peak (Summit Peak will not be in view). At about a mile and 1/2, start turning left (south) and gain elevation up a bench which will give you views of the steep north face of Summit. Just below the precipitous north face of Summit Peak, you can pick up the continental divide trail on around to the South side of the peak. From this point, climb up easy grassy slopes to the summit.

Essential Gear

Early in the season (sometimes even into June) there can be significant snow on the north side of the peak. Crampons, ice axe, and snow shoes may be necessary.
