Approach

From Pagosa Springs drive north on Colorado 160 approximately 10 miles and turn right on FR 667. Drive approximately 12 miles and park at the end of the road.

Route Description

This route is pretty straightforward. Hike about 3 miles up a switchbacking trail to the south side of Summit Peak. Scramble up the remaining distance up grassy slopes to the summit.

Essential Gear

Although the south side is less likely to have snow than the north face, early season climbs may require snowshoes, crampons, and an ice axe.
