Approach

From the Coire Cas carpark head into Coire an Lochain (see OS map, try the Grantown and Cairngorm 1:50,000 sheet or the 1:25,000 Cairngorms sheet). Coire an Lochain is the right hand of the two corries/cirques one can see from the ski road.

Alternatively head up the fiacaill ridge from the Coire Cas carpark to the level section below the final rock section. Traverse West across steep snowslopes under number 1 buttress into the Coire. This approach is only recommended under hard snow with no avalanche danger.

The Vent is the obvious deep chimney seperating number 1 buttress on the East of the coire from the broader number 2 buttress

Route Description

Note the route is at its best mid to late season when there is lots of ice on the second pitch and the snow pitches are neve.

Pitch 1: Easy snow to a belay
Pitch 2: Climb steep ice over the chockstone to a belay
Pitch 3: Easy snow to the top

Essential Gear

2 ice axes, crampons, helmet, rope, a couple of ice screws and a few nuts and pegs

Miscellaneous Info

If you have information about this route that doesn't pertain to any of the other sections, please add it here.
