Approach

Traditional you start this climb from the base of Jones Creek (Although I personally like to climb the drainage to the Northwest)

To get to Jones Creek from Mackay head 10 miles north on US 95. Turn right and follow the road for 2.1 miles before turning right again. Go .4 miles and then head towards the mountains, where the road will end at the trailhead.

4WD is mandatory for this all other peaks in the Lost River Range (Except Borah)

Route Description

For the Jones Creek approach, you head straight up the creek (which you will end up crossing 20+ times) You won't get wet assuming the flow is below peak levels. At approximately 8,500 feet (Or 1.5 miles) you will want to head northwest up the small creek.

From the top of the ridge you will head pretty much due north to the small lake. This a good spot to stop, eat some food, and study the next part.

This is where it gets tricky . . . I recommend sticking to the "ramps" the whole way up, keeping to the west side (Towards Donaldson)

When you hit the ridgeline the summit of Donaldson will be directly above you to the east and Church will be to the West. The ridgeline that connects them is narrow, but is somewhat worn and easy to follow.

Essential Gear

A helmet would be a good idea, but not mandatory.

If you wanted to lighten your load and you were climbing earlier in the season you could bring a purifier and purify some water at the lake.
