Approach

Ortega Highway (Rt. 74) East from Orange County parking at the San Juan Loop parking area across from Ortega Oaks candy store. The trailhead is located just to the right of the store across from the parking lot. Display your USFS Yearly Adventure Pass or buy a daily pass from the store.

Route Description

The trailhead begins at 1980' and ascends for about a mile until you reach a junction with the Morgan Trail. Go right here. The Morgan Trail heads off to the left. In another 2 miles you intersect a fireroad that is the old Verdugo Truck Trail. You can follow this fireroad to the right or head straight (newer trail) since both trail intersect at a saddle named Four Corners in about 1.2 miles.

Four Corners as at 2751' so you have only gained 800' of your 2150' of elevation gain. Froun here you go right on the Sitton Peak Road or if you took the newer path head straight. Follow this trail or old unused road ascending for about 0.8 mile where you will eventually reach a flat area. From here the road descends for 0.5 mile to another flat area which is just below the summit. To reach the summit scramble up the steep use trail off to the right

Essential Gear

Good comfortable day hikers and sunscreen. There aren't many cloudy days up here and the summers have to potential of being blistering hot!
