Approach

Park at the Ryan Mountain traihead parking lot just past Sheeps Pass Campground. The trail head begins at about 4400' from this parking area.

Route Description

The route is easy to follow as there is a well worn path leading all the way to the top. From the parking lot you head straight for about 300 yards until you reach a junction where you turn right. You then begin ascending around the base of the smaller mountain to the south of Ryan's summit. You will eventually follow the drainage between the two mountains until you reach a small saddle where the trail turns more southerly toward the summit. Follow this to the top and relax an enjoy the spectacular desert view.

Essential Gear

Adequate sunscreen and water are essential for even short hikes in Joshua Tree.
