Approach
Trailhead is Kofuschg (Colfosco) between Corvara and Grödner Joch (Passo Gardena). The climb starts at the bottom of the Col Pradat lift, which can be taken for the first 200m of ascent.
Route Description
Altitude gain: 1020m (630m if you take the lift to Col Pradat)
Duration: 2h 30min (1h 30min from the lift)
Trailhead: Colfosco / Kolfuschg (1615m)
The normal route leads up the Edelweiss Valley and heads for the Ciampei Pass. Before reaching Ciampei Lake, however, it turns right and heads directly for Sassongher pass. Here you already encounter some exposed sections but the trail is well kept an without serious problems.
(An Alternative is to take the lift towards Col Pradat from where you follow the ledge, also in the direction of Ciampei Pass. Somewhere along the way you meet the trail coming up directly through the Edelweiss Valley.)
From Sassongher pass scramble over lose rocky terrain southwards towards Sassongher summit. Just below the summit block turn to the left and climb the short ferrata (100m length) over rocky steps towards the top. All in all this is a perfect ferrata for beginners. It is pretty exposed but rather easy to climb.
Essential Gear
In principle hiking gear is sufficient. For the last 100m to the summit you might want to use a ferrata harness with two short ropes and carabines. Since the summit might get pretty crowded it is advisable to have a helmat at hand
