Approach

From the airport take freeway GC 1 northward to the exit Telde, turn westward onto GC 10 and then in Telde take GC 41 in the direction of Vega de San Mateo. There turn left on GC15, direction Cruz de Tejeda. At the pass turn sharply left into GC150, direction Pico de Las Nieves. After some 2km you reach the parking lot at Degollada de Becerra.

Route Description

Altitude gain: 480m ascent, 210m descent
Duration: 2h 30min
Traihead: Degollada de Becerra on GC150 south of Cruz de Tejeda

This is probably the most beatiful tour to Roque Nublo since you follow a trail on top of the walls of the Caldera de Tejeda with nice and changing views of Roque Nublo, Roque Bentayga and the whole western part of Gran Canaria. From Degollada de Becerra you follow GC150 for about 500m to Degollada de la Cumbre. Here you can chose a path downward to La Culata (and from there on to Roque Nublo) or a trail that leads steeply upwards to Montana del Anden del Toro.

The trail follows the Caldera walls until you reach the campground at Llanos de la Pez (see accomodation) which you cross. Here it descends to the water reservoir Embalse de los Hornos. You cross the concrete dam and ascend to the road (GC600) which leads you after 500m to La Goleta. The rest of the tour follows the direct ascent to Roque Nublo.

Essential Gear

Hiking gear and a lot of water.
