Approach

Take Route National 193 to Col de Vizzavona. This road is one of the two major highways of the island and runs from Ajaccio in the west to Bastia in the north. On Col de Vizzavona (or a little below to the north) you can find a couple of parking lots since near this pass you can find beautiful cascades the Cascades des Anglais. If theses lots are full drive to the little village of Vizzavona and try to park at the railway station.

Route Description

Altitude gain: 1475m (!!)
Duration: 5h
Difficulty: easy but exposed and climbing patch (II) on top
Trailhead: Vizzavona

For the first hour this trail runs along the renowned Cascades des Anglais a beautiful assortment of little waterfalls and pools. It follows the great corsian trecking trail GR20 along the river L'Agnone through an old beech forest right up to its spring. A little before it reaches the spring the path turns left and heads upwards to the pass of Muratello

At "Muratello the GR20 leaves the summit route to the left. We follow the ridge to the right, which is technically easy but rather exposed. Due to the high winds in the upper regions of Corsica this ridge actually can become quite difficult to cross. You must climb the pass Bocca di Porco to get to the southern side of the ridge from where the final ascent starts. You meet another trail (the junction is called Épaule de la Jonction - Junction Shoulder) which uses the "La Scala" route from Vizzavona.

At this junction you head directly north for the summit - first through steep gravel fields, later through some short climbing passages (II). On the top take your time for the views of all the high peaks of Corsica.

Essential Gear

Hiking gear is sufficient. Bring warm clothes for the high and gusty winds of Haut Corse.
