Approach
Previous stage of the Haute route (Chamonix - Zermatt).
You also can reach the Chanrion hut from the Mauvoisin dam (waymarked path).
Route Description
From the Chanrion hut follow the path (north direction) until the old moraine of the Glacier du Brenay (2624 m). Follow it until the small left moraine. Cross the flat part of the glacier until the middle moraine. Follow it until Brenay and Serpentine glaciers junction.
Pass close to the Serpentine rocks to get over the icefall and go to the névé in the centre of the glacier. At the Brenay pass (3260 m), go north to reach the summit.
GPS route
Here are the waypoints of the Chanrion hut to the Vignettes hut via the Pigne d'Arolla.
This route was nice by ski in spring 2002. Because a glacier lives, it may change depending on the year and the conditions.
In summer it is better to use the center moraine of the low part of the Glacier du Brenay (as describe in the previous section).
