Route Description
From either trailhead, hike until you reach a gate/kiosk/fence. Pass through and follow the great trail as it winds up the hillside of the peak. It's steep in places but well maintained. Toward the top the trail gets narrow and occasionally one has to be clever in places but it's not bad. The views over the desert scape are beautiful! It's about a mile+ to the saddle from the gate/fence, maybe another mile from the lower trailhead. The saddle is a great place to stop and relax. For those with no interest in scrambling, this is a good turnaround point, too. It's well worth the effort just to get here.
For the summit: follow a sketchy path northerly for about 100 vertical feet. This part isn't difficult, just sloppy. It ends at the base of the summit rocks. The remaining 140 vertical feet is up a series of rock ledges, gullies and rounded slopes. Handholds are everywhere. Only a couple of places have exposure of concern. It depends on your comfort level. The chute lets off at the elongated summit ridge where a conical cairn marks the top. Wickenburg is visible to the northeast. Miles of desert everywhere else!
Essential Gear
long pants, gloves and trekking poles. Beware of cactus, snakes and possibly, bees.
