Route Description

General data
- Start altitude: 1430m, 1342 at the bridge over the Gail River
- Summit altitude: 2314m

- Type: 1h over forest roads, 2h along beautiful meadow trails, 30min over the rocky summit ridge

You leave the village of Obertillach aloong the road which leads into Obertillacher Tal. There are signposts to Porze and Spitzköfele. The road descends down to the Gail River and later gradually rises. After 5km the road splits, you take the left one which is marke "19". Soon the trail leaves the road to follow a little creek and once you are above the timberline (at 1800m) you'll be able to see the destination.
Shortly before you leave the creek you meet the "Karnischer Höhenweg" trekking trail, which traverses a beautiful meadow in north-easterly direction. The trail turns east and climbs directly to the Spitzköfele south ridge. Here turn north again and follow the path (unmarked) to the summit
Essential Gear
Normal hiking gear is sufficient. Bring warm clothes since the winds in Lesachtal can be pretty strong. The valley runs from west to east, the main wind direction in Europe.
