ApproachHike to Lake 3060+, one mile east of Electra Peak. There are a number of ways of reaching this lake, briefly described on the main page: from Silver Lake via Clinch Pass (Pass 3500+, 0.5mi SW of Davis Lakes), from Thousand Island Lake via North Glacier Pass (and optionally Mt. Davis), or from the south via the trail to Twin Island Lakes. Cross-country hiking is easy throughout the valley of the North Fork of the San Joaquin River, so the precise approach is a matter of personal preference and convenience.
Route DescriptionFrom Lake 3060+, hike south up grassy slopes until it is possible to contour around to the right (west). Hike northwest up past a couple of small lakes. A cliffband is seen beyond these; this can be avoided by following slabs and ledges to the right. (If using this route for a descent, you can avoid the cliffs by using Mt. Davis as a landmark; hike towards that landmark until you find slabs and/or a gully to take you down to the small lakes). Above the cliffs, easy slabs lead up to Lake 11,815 and the cirque immediately northeast of the peak.
From the cirque, a number of options present themselves. Talus leads up to both the east and north ridge, either of which can be followed to the summit (class 2). Alternatively, you can climb the northeast face of the peak directly. This features steep slabs and ledges, and is enjoyable class 3 on solid rock.
Essential GearNone required. Ice axe/crampons may be helpful in early season.
