Route Description

Round trip distance: 6 miles
Elevation gain: 1500 ft.

From the Dog Canyon Trailhead, hike less than 1/4 of a mile to the Tejas/Bush Mountain Trail split. Continue hiking approximately 3 miles up the Tejas Trail. This well maintained trail has a very mellow slope through trees in the bottom of the canyon and at about mile 1.5, the trail will begin to switchback up out of the canyon towards Lost Peak.

The trail at mile 3 will make an obvious bend to the left. You will be looking straight up at Lost Peak with a bushwack ahead of you. The easiest route is to continue on past Lost Peak on the Tejas Trail and hike up from South to North up to the summit, although hiking straight up to the summit is doable.

Essential Gear

A sturdy pair of boots and long pants will be needed due to the rough nature of the bushwack. High winds can be expected at any time of year so a windbreaker would be a good idea during colder months.
