Approach

The starting point is Cojzovca koca na Kokrskem sedlu (pass) (1793m). You can ascend on Cojzovca koca na Kokrskem sedlu from the meadow Suhadolnik (901m). This is the west approach and it is harder but you can also come from east side from the valley Kamniska Bistrica where is also the hut Dom v Kamniski Bistrici (600m).

The more deatiled description of reaching the Kokrsko sedlo (pass) and the Cojzova koca (hut) will be described soon when me and Vid will describe all the approaches to the main huts in Kamnik Alps group on the page of Kamnik Alps .

a <---- Nice overview map of the area. This route is on the map, the route number 1.

Route Description

The south side of Skuta. From the left: the ridge of Dolgi Hrbet, notch, Struca, the highest is Skuta and then Kranjska Rinka.

From the Cojzova koca (hut) you start walking in the south direction and you first ascend a bit over the nice grassy slope. Then you come on the crossing with the marked route on the Grintovec over the south slopes and on the Skuta. You follow the route that goes on Skuta (the right one).

Soon you come on the small pass called Mala vratca (Small Door) (1970m) where you descend a little and then cross below the face that belongs to the SE ridge of Grintovec. Some parts are a little airy but they are well secured. Then you come on the small plateau and you cross it and soon you will see the bivouac called Bivak pod Grintovcem (2102m). It is very small. You continue ascending in the south direction and on all crossings with marked routes you follow the signposts for Skuta. Now you are coming in nearness of the Dolgi hrbet (2473m) and Struca (2457m). Your goal is the notch (2408m) between them. But before you will win the last screes below the notch you will cross the big plateau Veliki Podi.

Now you are on the notch and you turn on the right and continue hiking in the east direction over the west ridge and slopes of Skuta. On the right side you see the beautiful Struca and soon you come over the last slopes on the summit of Skuta.

You descend by the same route or you can choose any other possibilities but be careful how hard they are and how long (check others description of the routes on Skuta).

Essential Gear

Good hiking shoes, helmet, rope (for not good climbers). In Winter season all Winter equipment. (ice axe, crampons, rope...)
