Approach

see "Getting There" for the southern approach.

Route Description

Ascend Meadow Creek for 1.5 miles into its basin. There are several campsites with early summer water available between 10,000' and 10,400' to lessen the summit day. The Meadow Creek Basin has recovered nicely from the Kirwin mining era. Gain the headwall at the western end of the basin to reach the long undulating south ridge of Francs. The ridge is mostly wide but a few narrow spots will require some decision making and scrambling.
NavySeabee adds: The measured GPS distance to the large open meadow is about 3.5 miles. Meadow to summit is approx. 3.5 miles for a route total of 7 miles one-way.

Essential Gear

Wilderness backpacking or full-weather dayhike.
