Approach

Park in the parking area 14 miles north of the Cottonwood Ranger Station along Pinto Basin Road. There is a Backcountry Registration Box in this parking area. You will see Pinto Mountain to the northeast from this parking area.

Route Description

Pinto Mountain is visable to the northeast from the parking area. Head directly toward the peak across 2.5 miles of desert flats (large alluvial valley). Head toward a ridge that is between two major washes. This ridge is a good route to take to the summit. Ascend the ridge, following it and a use trail that is often visible, to the summit. The summit is marked by a large cairn.

Trip Statistics: 9 miles roundtrip - 5 to 6 hours. 2,400 feet gain - all in the last 2 miles.

Essential Gear

No technical gear is required. Bring plenty of water - it can get hot in the Pinto Basin area.
