ApproachSee the Getting There section of the main page for directions to the trailhead.
Route DescriptionFrom the trailhead follow the trail one mile through switchbacks that are pretty easily graded. Mile two steepens and there are some short Class 2 sections right before the Rimrock Viewpoint. After this, it is an easy ridgewalk with occasional views for about 2 and 1/2 more miles gaining only 850 feet. (The first two miles gain about 1700) You will lose some elevation on and off along the ridge so total elevation is about 3000 feet over 4.5 miles.
Points along the way to note:
2.1 miles - Rimrock Viewpoint
2.4 miles - The Rockpile (signed)
3.5 miles - Helispot (there is a sign on the south side of a tree pointing to the west to a short almost hidden path to it, but not really worth it in my opinion)
4.4 miles - summit
4.5 miles - The Great Pyramid viewpoint
Note that the summit is just the highspot on the trail where there is a moss-covered rock a hundred yards or so before (the the north of) the sign pointing to the Great Pyramid (also the point where the trail goes on to the left to Devils Peak)
Plan on this taking closer to 3 hours to get to the summit as you will undoubtedly waste time scrambling around the Rockpile. Be careful though, some of those rocks are loose and potential ankle-busters. If you, don't tarry at viewpoints, you could do this in under 5 hours total.
Essential GearNone needed. Maybe some snowshoes in winter after snowfall.
