Approach

The "base" of this climb is Peak 8. Gain the summit of Peak 8 via various routes.

The Ridge Connecting Peaks 8 and 9

Route Description

This ridge looks like it's pretty rugged, but it's not really more than Class 2. Descend from Peak 8 on the obvious ridge, and travel to the saddle between the two peaks. From the saddle, angle west to gain the easier portion of the ridge to Peak 9. Follow this ridge to the summit.

During winter and spring while Breckenridge Ski Resort is still open, this may be the quickest way to the summit of 9. Take the T-Bar to the base of 8, climb the rest of 8, and ski to 9.

Route Stats
One-Way Mileage: 2.15 miles
Elevation Loss from 8: -656 feet
Elevation Gain to 9: +844 feet

Essential Gear

Standard hiking gear in summer. Skis make this a quick up and down in winter.

"Hours slide by like minutes. The accumulated clutter of day-to-day existence – the lapses of conscience, the unpaid bills, the bungled opportunities, the dust under the couch, the inescapable prison of your genes – all of it is temporarily forgotten, crowded from your thoughts by an overpowering clarity of purpose by the seriousness of the task at hand."   --Jon Krakauer
