Western Approach
NOTE: Reports are that the road has been washed out at mile 7.3 up the road. I talked to the Espanola Ranger District and they cannot confirm this yet but they will eventually check it out.
This approach is not recommended because of car vandalism at the trailhead. I have read reports of successful attempts from this trailhead without vandalism.
Permission from the Truchas Land Grant is also necessary for access to the trailhead.

Map
I highly recommend stopping by the Camino Real Ranger District in Penasco, NM and getting the new and updated Pecos Wilderness map. The map was updated in 2004 and is much improved from the last printing. The cost of the map in 2005 was $7.
Route Description
The Rio Quemado Valley from North Truchas Peak (Western Route)
Follow dsnell's route up the Rio Quemado Valley to the saddle between Medio Truchas Peak and North Truchas Peak.
Scramble up some class 2 terrain north to the summit.
Essential Gear
Again, this trailhead is not recommeded because of car vandalism at the trailhead. If you choose to use this route, don't leave anything of value in your vehicle.
