ApproachTo reach the village of Radomirė in Kala e Dodės, you have to travel to the district capital Peshkopi, where you can find hotels and even guides. Peshkopi is a five hours drive from the Albanian capital Tirana and is connected by coach and mini-buses. You can get there also from Macedonia crossing the border north of the city of Debar.
Radomirė is located some 25 km north of Peshkopi. The road is very bad, so it will take you two to three hours to get there. Because this road is often used for travells from Peshkopi to Kukės (the main route showed in maps seems to be even worse) you might find mini-buses that can drop you off only some three kilometers away from Radomirė village.
In Radomirė you find a small shop whith a bar. There's no hotel or pension in this village, but maybe a friendly local will offer you a room. A doctor used to live in the village. Not all mobile phones are working here.
Route DescriptionYou have to get up to the peak from behind (east side). Getting there, you have to cross the meadows of Fusha Korabit and Panair in the north and north-east of the peak. Standing in Radomirė and looking in the direction of Korab, you see several high peaks to the left hand side in front of Maja e Korabit. At the end of this rock face (to the north), there's a small gorge. This gorge will lead you to the Fusha Korabit.
It's the best to ask in Radomirė for direction for Fusha Korabit. There's a trail leading to this alp from the end of the village on the left hand side of the valley. It will lead you through a small gorge up the rock face. You will find shepherds to ask for direction.
Fusha Korabit is a big alp at 2000 meters, a plain surrounded by high mountains approximately three kilometres in length. Shepherds are living here in summer. Ask them for direction of Panair. At the end of the alp is the border to Macedonia. Before the trail leads up to the pass in the final third of the plain, you should start to ascent on the south side of the valley. In the beginning, it's hard to find the path used by the sheep heards. You get to a small plain. Leave this plain to the south west on the east! side of a small valley.
The track will lead you to the plain of Panair. You have to surmount a small rockslide that closures the plain of Panair. Do this on the east side of the rockslide. Passing the rockslide on its west side will give you more troubles to cross the creeks on the Panair plain.
Panair is a small plain at 2200 metres, where shepheards used to meet to trade stock and to hold competitions between their sheep. Four big creeks flow down into the plain. Two from the west side, one from south and one from east. Follow the pasture on the east side of the creek in the south up to the ridge. Half way up, you can cut short directly to the peak. Reaching the ridge, follow it up to the peak.
Under normal circumstances, it takes at least five to six hours uphill, add three to four hours for coming back.
Essential GearFrom June till September, only good hiking equipment is needed. Several creeks and snowfields might to be crossed - especially in early summer.
