Approach
Two approach possibilities are covered on the front page but this is the way I went:
From Forest Service road 84, take the spur road, 8440 2 1/2 miles to the TH. It sits at a curve in the road.. The Trailhead is obvious but is more like a wide spot in the road. The trailhead for Greenwood Lake also takes off from the same parking area.
Route Description

The trail is 1.6 miles in length and gains 1400 feet of elevation and is in pleasant forest almost the whole way. No water is passed so carry it. A couple of wood log benches have been placed for the geriatric set (includes me).

The trail heads right for the lookout most of the way and swings a bit to the west as it prepares for the final 300 yards that lead to the top. An old shed is passed and the lookout comes into view. Only a class 2 rock scramble remains and in dry conditions this is pretty simple. You can pick your own way up the remaining rock surface but at no time do you need your hands.
Essential Gear
Nothing technical unless you encounter snow or ice on the final 100 yards. Regular hiking shoes will do the trick but make sure you bring a camera if it is a sunny day or you'll kick yourself with your hiking shoes all the way home.
