Approach

The easiest way to get to the base of this route is to down climb from the the ridge. Follow the Northwest ridge route to the actual ridge. At this point down climb to the base of the north face. On you way down try and memorize the route you will take up the face. Another option would be to ascend up La Plata Basin, but this is not recommended as there is lots of talus for miles and miles and miles. I descended this way on my first trip and it was pure hell.

Route Description

When you're on the ridge note the spine disecting the north face. At the northern end of this you will see a grassy ledge. Make your way to this spot. From here head south up one of the many couloirs to the summit. The routes further east are steeper. If descending this route you will need to contour around the base of the northwest ridge to tree line. This is mostly grassy slopes withe some sections of talus. Once at tree line you have two options. Ascendand follow tree line west to the Northwest ridge route or do a descending traverse wnw to the northwest ridge route. If you come to a large steam you have gone too far and missed the trail. If you get in trouble as far a routefinding just look to the north and you will be able to see the road.

Essential Gear

Ice axe, helmet and crampons are advisable
