Approach

THIS ROUTE DOES'T ACTUALLY GO TO THE SUMMIT OF GRIZZLY BUT MAKES FOR A FINE SKI IN FULL VIEW OF A-BASIN SKI AREA
Begin at the parking lot across from the CDOT Shed on US 6. This is located right near the winter closure gate on the west side of the pass. Locate the gully leading to up into Grizzly's West Bowl. This is the beginning of the route

Route Description

From the gully hike thru the trees to the right of the gully. Avoid the gully itself as you cannot see above and if a slide happens your basically toast. The route follows the south ridge of the west bowl. When you get to the top after roughly 2 miles things get dramatically more difficult. This ridge is intense. It's only 150 yards to the couloir but it took us almost 40 minutes. Be very careful as a fall could be fatal. This can be done without ropes. All the travel across the ridge need to be done on the west side of the crest. Avoid getting to close to the actual crest as you might find yourself punching thru and taking a lot of air down the east side. When you make it to the couloir you'll feel like oh this looks easy. Time to ski. At the bottom of the couloir make your way into a-basin ski area. You will not cross a rope so this is legal. If you keep taking rights in the ski area you will end up back at your ride

Essential Gear

Skis, Helmet and ice axe(optional). Tiiming is also essential this route should be done on stable spring snow. Prefferably early in the morning. Sun hitss this around 9:30 am
