Approach

This route allows to discover the canyons surrounding Sainte Engrâce ( Donagrazi ).

Trailhead: the most difficult part of this hike is to find the trailhead. After reaching the parking of the Kakueta Canyon ( coming from Tardets ), keep on driving for 2km; go right, and cross the stream on a little bridge. The road goes up for 2km. When getting out from the forest, go left and drive eastwards to the house Aztainartia ( Better got a brand new map, or speak French and Euskarraz = Basque !!!, but people are helpful ).

Route Description

From the parking area, hike up a forest trail, to the south, then to the south-east after a fence. ( Important: the trail winds in the forest, and it may be difficult to be sure that you go the right way ).
After 1h30, you get to the right rim of the canyon of Ehujarre ( 1150m ). Keep on the rim of the canyon, until a little basin ( streams in Spring ), 1 hour later ( 1430m ), on the noth side of the Lakora.
Hike up this small valley to the south, than the west, to get to the Ihizkundizeko Lepoa ( = Pass of Ihizkundize ), 1619m.
Climb up the ridge. Summit at 1877m, around 3h30 or 4h from the parking area.

Essential Gear

Good map ( at least 1/50000 ) and compass.
