Approach
Take the Stowe gondola to top. Walk down the gravel service road about 200 yds and the trailhead is on the right.
Route Description
The summit can be reached from the top of the Stowe gondola via the Cliff Trail, then hiking north on the Long Trail to the summit. This may look like the "easy way" (and it certainly is easier than hiking up the whole mountain), but the Cliff trail is no easy hike. It is about 0.4 mi of large, jumbled boulders, with a few sections of steep, flat rock near the top. Nothing here is technically very hard, but it is slow going and you need to be careful as you pick your way over the boulders. Once you gain the ridgeline, turn right (north) on the Long Trail and follow the white blazes and cairns about 0.3 mi to the summit. The exposed ridgeline is an easy, spectacular walk with terrific views in all directions. Return to the gondola hut by the same route.
Essential Gear
good hiking boots really help on the boulders
