Approach

North Gateway Rock, Cowboy Boot Face.

Scramble up to a large sandstone ledge below the face, and belay from here.

Route Description

Spot the Cowboy Boot Crack. Initially, step left to skirt a flake, and follow the great crack to the top. 90 feet. Two bolt anchor at the top.

Essential Gear

Medium Stoppers and Cams. Quickdraws. It's possible to girth hitch a large flake halfway up the route for an extra anchor.

There are a few old pitons along the route as well. Weight them at your own risk.

"Hours slide by like minutes. The accumulated clutter of day-to-day existence – the lapses of conscience, the unpaid bills, the bungled opportunities, the dust under the couch, the inescapable prison of your genes – all of it is temporarily forgotten, crowded from your thoughts by an overpowering clarity of purpose by the seriousness of the task at hand."   --Jon Krakauer
