Trailhead Directions

From NC 80, drive south on the Blue Ridge Parkway for 3.5 miles to FS 2074 (mile-marker 347.6) which is a gravel road on the right. Descend the mountain on the winding road, staying left at the fork at 2.3 miles to reach the large sign for the Black Mountain Campground at 3.0 miles. Park in the small lot on the left. The trailhead is located 0.3 miles west in the campground.

Route Description

From mile marker 359 on the BRP go north on gravel road marked USFS 472 follow this road for about 5 miles to the Black Mountain Campground. From here, hike the Mt. Mitchell trail the rest of the way.
