Approach

The normal Koncista summit route starts its run at Batizovske Pleso(1884) lake at the threshold of Batizovska Valley.

It is easily accessible by marked routes :

1 1/2 h by red marked Magistrala trail from Sliezsky Dom mountain chalet in Velicka Valley

2 1/2 h walk-up from Vysne Hagy (yellow marks) .

Route Description

Starting at southern shore of Batizovske Pleso lake we follow first red marks of Magistrala towards south-west to nearby,
wide south-eastern Koncista ridge (20 min.) .
We turn onto the ridge and begin a long, really arduous walk-up in the north-western direction along the ridge through
slightly sloping grassfields and rocky terrain till we reach the first south ridge rocky culmination(2277) .
The ridge becomes now rocky and rather narrow, we climb it for 15 minutes after what descending a bit to the west from the ridge
we hike it round under almost horizontally to the north to a really huge screes of Koncista's western slopes where we hike up further to the right
by a wide, shallow, scree couloir until we reach the main summit with characteristic boulder rock on it (45 min.) .

2 1/2 h from Batizovske Pleso lake .

Essential Gear

Summer : Normal hiking gear ...

Winter : ice-axe and crampons (usually necessary by traverses in the summit area) .
