Approach

On the USGS Spanish Peaks Quadrangle drive to the Lovers Leap turn-around just before and above the town. From there follow the "jeep trail" north for about three to four miles until you get into the open on a boulder field. Ahead on your left at this point you will see the Bullseye. Its a nice place to camp and due to the snowfield melt above on the mountain there is a stream on the other side of the knoll.

Route Description

From the area near Bullseye follow the "jeep trail" about another half mile until its end and a true trail begins that winds its way up the slopes on you right. On the Quadrangle the trail dissappears and that is what happened to our group as well. We went straight west up the slopes until we hit the ridge at about 13,000 feet. From there follow the Ridge southwest to the summit. The crux is the first part of the ridge there is a 20 foot tall wall that seems vertical but is easily overcome. For the descent take the same route. I do not recommend taking the couliours farther back in the bowl as they turned out to be quite steep for our group.

Essential Gear

This is a typical Colorado mountain so bring the raingear and food in the summer while during the rest of the year you should know what you are doing and know what to bring.

"Got tight last night on absinthe and did knife tricks. Great success shooting the knife into the piano. The woodworms are so bad and eat hell out of all furniture that you can always claim the woodworms did it."   --Ernest Hemingway
